Artist's BIO click to see Artist's Statement I guess you could say my life-long fascination with building came from growing up playing with my sisters at our fathers boatyard in the 1950s. I soon learned it was more fun to create beautiful objects than to merely admire them. |

You’ll notice a reoccurring motif of fish, sealife, and seaweed in my work — a remembrance of treasures found playing on the docks. I'm sure the reoccurring plant and leaf imagery reflects the influence of my grandmother [whose home was next door to the boatyard] and her love of nature, plants, birds and especially flowers.In essence, I am interested in earth-born sources. Simple but organic elements interest me. Forms more remembered than observed. Gaudi’s statement “Originality is the return to the origin” has influenced me throughout my 20 years as an artist. My fascination is with the lifecycle of nature—nature, renewal and rebirth… the mystery of inner life and the inner growth process.

Regarding Steel… With my appreciation of South Florida’s delicate beauty and a concern for her ecology, I work only in recycled steel and earth-friendly paints. All Rybovich Artwork is created from sheets of weathered steel, which have been flame-cut with an acetylene torch. I like to leave the steel with its slag -- the molten edges left as evidence of the cutting process. I feel it emphasizes the fluidity of molten steel and find it beautifully suggests organic growth. I am fascinated in the process -- intrigued by the immediacy and spontaneity of the cutting process; the dance that creates the sculpture.

The Finishes… A number of hand-rubbed finishes intrigue me right now: Weathered and Rusted steel has a range of wonderful, natural colors which are enhanced by the flame in the cutting process. I am fascinated by the effect of nature on raw steel as it rusts, as well as blackened steel which has a rich, subtle warmth. Also, antiqued and patinaed finishes of gold, copper and silver leaf and verdigris on weathered steel, an effect that speaks of nature and the passage of time. Often I work in bright color—splashing on pigment in an abstract expressionistic style, the colors defining shape and bringing energy into the space.

The Ordering & Creative
Process… The following details
the process of creating the uniquely personal Rybovich artwork:
* Conversations that explore the
nature of the space, budget, and the artwork desired. * Using photos and measurements of
the space, a determination of dimensions made. * Sketches and renderings
are created to explore what direction the artwork might take. * Renderings, sketches and maquette
are fine-tuned to capture the expression desired. * Once established, a life-size
rendering is created, which will be used as a pattern. * Once final rendering is
approved, 50% deposit is paid. * The piece is created in steel,
and finished in custom paint or finish desired. * Balance paid upon satisfactory
delivery. All Rybovich Artwork is built to custom specifications. My approach this: Let me build your dream. In this way, you share in the joy of creation. As my father taught me, "Everything matters".
